The Florida Tobacco Research Group (FTRG), established in 2006, is a multi-disciplinary research team at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami. The team includes epidemiologists, physicians, statisticians, and health services researchers, working together to reduce tobacco-related cancers in Florida.
See Contact Us page for list of Team members.

More than 582,000 Floridians currently suffer from tobacco-associated health problems such as cancer, heart disease and lung disease. Over 12,000 Floridians will die this year from smoking-related cancers, which account for more than two-thirds of all cancer deaths in the state.

Initial support for the FTRG comes from Florida's James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program through a Team Science Project grant for FY 2006 - 2008. See Projects page for more information.
Funding for future research initiatives will enable FTRG to continue and expand their analytical studies, which will be used to plan and evaluate community-level interventions for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of tobacco-related diseases.
